Introduced to the UK by Chris Bowers and a variety that has performed very well across the continent and with a complete set list of qualities that are ideal for the UK climate. Beautiful frost resistant pure white bee friendly blossom en masse setting a prolific crop of large lustrous black-red fruitd, inside ruby red and dripping with honeyed juice and sweetness .... the large fruits hang in clusters beneath the foliage canopy making them obligingly easy to harvest and also somewhat split resistant as they are largely sheltered from the rain. The flowers are self fertile and easily pollinated.
Growth is hardy, not overly vigorous and has performed well across all growing methods including dwarf tree, column and fan, Black Star is an ideal choice for any garden usage. With it's reliable growth, self fertile blossom, hardiness and gorgeous flavour this variety truly impresses and must be tried. Season mid-late normally ripening second half of July.
Available as small bush on Gisele 5 stock - ideal for container growing or the smaller garden/orchard - more vigorous Colt stock for a traditional larger growing tree - space saving super-column - and for fan training against that sunny wall.
