QUINCE
Quince mkes a really delicious preserve or marmalade and can be added to pies, especially apple, when they add an exquisite aromatic taste. Makes a tree about 12' with a similar spread, taller on very fertile soils. The fruits are golden yellow, very fragrant, predominantly pear-shaped and 5-7" long. Very attractive, but they should not be eaten raw. The trees are hardy but appreciate a sheltered corner when grown in the north of the country. Heavy cropping and makes a very attractive tree that also serves as an ornamental. The blossom flowers are very large, often 2". white to light pink and the leaves are dark green to oval. Normally crops 4 years after planting and lives to a very great age.
