* THE THORNLESS TAYBERRY 'BUCKINGHAM' *

At last - what we have all been waiting for! The Tayberry has very quickly made a name for itself as one of the most important breeding developments of the last 20 years - and not just another novelty but a superb and very exceptional fruit in its own right which is now planted as a matter of course by many fruit gardeners. The only (small) drawback was that the 'original' Tayberry was thorny, hence the great value of this introduction. This completely smooth and spineless sport or mutation of the Tayberry arose in Buckinghamshire. Resultant plants have shown excellent vigour with strong canes and in all other respects is virtually identical to the Tayberry except of course for the attractive smooth stems which makes the training, pruning and harvesting so much easier. Early reports regarding yield and fruit quality have already been good and it has been suggested that this could, like the LY654 Loganberry which arose under similar circumstances, actually be superior in these respects to the original. Demand will certainly exceed supply – early ordering is strongly, advised.
