CHERRIES - RECENT INTRODUCTIONS

SUNBURST

We were pleased to be the first to introduce this superb new variety in 1988. The first ever sweet black cherry, that is self fertile and can be grown on its own with no other pollinator required, Sunburst is quite superb. The large, black, juicy fruits have a gorgeous flavour, and the crop is heavy. The growth habit is similar to Stella and makes a good, easy to manage tree. Ripening in early July, Sunburst really is going to be a superb variety for garden culture. Raised by the same research team as Stella, the first self fertile, dark red cherry Sunburst, with those luscious black fruits, is going to be even better. Perfect for the one tree garden. Very heavy cropping, good split resistance. Highly recommended.

SYLVIA

A new dessert Cherry of compact growth habit, the sweet black fruits of fine quality and flavour. A good variety in its own right, the main reason for including Sylvia is its remarkable habit - The fruits are produced directly underneath the leaves, sheltering the fruit from rain and reducing markedly the chance of splitting.

CELESTE

A further new naturally compact variety with large dark red fruits of good quality which ripen Mid July. Self fertile. Already very popular.

VEGA

A new introduction from Canada. For those of you who prefer a white cherry this variety is a must. High quality fruits that are sweet and juicy. A mid season variety that is very promising. Very large fruits. Pollinate with Sylvia, Celeste, Stella etc.

SUMMIT

Very high quality, dark red fruits, with a delicious flavour. Very heavy cropping in late July to extend the season. Makes a good, easy to manage tree. Summit requires pollination Stella and Merchant would be ideal or, of course, Sunburst or Lapins. Highly recommended.

LAPINS (Cherokee)

Another dark red/black, self fertile cherry with large, dark fleshed fruits. Good split resistance. A heavy crop produced later in the season.
The above varieties are not available as E.M.L.A. stock as they were all raised in British Columbia. They are however all produced from the original British Columbian virus tested stock.
